Day 11/30: Mixing Metals

Thursday, June 23, 2011

Silver necklace, silver hardware on belt & bag, and... gold ornament on shoes? I think it's safe to say most people are fans of matching hardware, but it doesn't bother me when I mix and match. If it's something big and noticeable, I'd probably be more careful about matching, but otherwise, I feel it's another one of those "old" fashion rules (ie: don't mix browns and blacks) that everyone breaks. What are your thoughts on this?

  1. I hardly even pay attention to my "metals". I think that's another fashion "rule" that needs to be updated or completely thrown away. :) I love how your jeans hug your curves. You look so long and lean!

  2. love the slouchy T with the fitted jeans & ultra feminine shoes!

i no longer pay attention to metals. i have a staple silver/steel watch that i pair with gold/brass constantly. thankfully, those rules are long gone!

  3. I tend to stick with the similar colored "metals" for earrings and necklaces. I don't always stick to the rules when it comes to handbags and shoes though. Example, you will see me in gold necklace and earrings with silver hardware bags. Oh well... I think if it doesn't look "odd", I'd go with it. I know "odd" is a personal opinion, but what matters the most is my own opinion, right?

  4. i try to stick to the same color family, but im not too good at it. ive tried to add more rose gold hardware that i can wear with silver or gold. every time you wear these pink heels i think i need a pair!

  5. I love how you made a simple tee and jeans so fabulous. As for mixing and matching, I definitely am more comfortable with wearing gold with silver and blacks and browns now. I actually like being a bit non-matchy matchy.

  7. I tend to stick with the same colored metals. Although, I don't mind mix and match things sometimes especially with the metal on the Chanel :) You look so tall in this outfit, Cee. Love this casual look!

  8. Something I've been doing like, every day lately, is a chunky belt with just the front of my top tucked in, I LOVE this look.

  9. Loving the casual outfit! How do you make everything look SO GOOD??

I also tend to match metals but I usually only pay attention to this from belt up :) I do have to say I mix brown and black all the time at work. My bag is black and I'm too lazy to switch to a brown one when I wear brown shoes :P

  10. I'm glad I'm not the only one that mixes my metals....I don't have a gold watch at the moment so it throws me off whenever I wear gold jewelry! My handbag hardware never matches either lol! You look amazing even dressed causally!

  11. That necklace goes so well with the Chanel bag! And I think mixing metals is totally fun. I don't do it much but I think it looks great when layering necklaces and bracelets. I also think brown should be considered like black - goes with everything!!

  12. Very chic. I like this one a lot even though it appears basic (it's so hard to make simple pieces look more complicated than they are) but you wear it perfectly!

  15. I used to thing that but I'm a total metal mixer now too - mostly b/c I'm getting too lazy to think about it so I just tell myself I'm being fashion forward :P

Seriously, how do you look so ridiculously amazing in jeans and a white t-shirt?!?

  16. I trying to keep my jewelry all the same metal (aside fromy my wedding ring, which I wear everyday regardless). As for the hardware on shoes or bags or belts, I don't really care so much.

    P.S. I love your necklace.

  17. Thanks everyone for sharing how you wear your jewelry. It's interesting to read how we all approach these fashion "rules" and when to throw them out the window :)

  18. Oh, I agree that it seems to be one of those rules that most people seem to disregard anymore, so I don't worry about it too much.

I love how classy you look, even in jeans and a t-shirt!
